Man Found in Backyard

According to Maine State Police, Sanford Police responded to a residence on Twombley Road shortly after 5:00 a.m. Thursday following a report that a deceased man had been located in the backyard near a fire pit.

Sanford Police notified the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office, which subsequently notified the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South.

Investigation Underway

Detectives and investigators from Maine State Police, the Fire Marshal’s Office and Sanford Police remained at the scene throughout the day.

The man’s remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Authorities said the man’s identification and the cause and manner of his death remain pending.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities said there is no danger to the public and additional information will be released as appropriate.
