Auburn Man Arrested on Sexual Assault and Furnishing Charges

Auburn Police say a 32-year-old man was taken into custody after a teen reported two sexual assaults, leading detectives to identify a suspect, obtain a warrant, and recover additional details that resulted in multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to the release, on August 25, 2025, a 17-year-old reported being sexually assaulted twice in Auburn by a male known to them. Detectives determined the suspect provided the victim alcohol and marijuana prior to the assaults and identified the suspect as Jean Ruhangintwari, 32, of Auburn. On September 29, 2025, Ruhangintwari was arrested on an arrest warrant charging him with Gross Sexual Assault (Class B), Gross Sexual Assault (Class C), Aggravated Furnishing of Scheduled Drugs (Class C), Furnishing Liquor to a Minor (Class D), Allowing a Minor to Possess or Consume Liquor (Class D), and Assault (Class D). He is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
The release notes that under Maine law, Gross Sexual Assault includes cases where a victim’s ability to consent is impaired by drugs or intoxicants provided by the offender. The department thanked the victim and family for coming forward and acknowledged support from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services (SAPARS).
