A Massachusetts man suffered minor injuries after a box truck left Interstate 93 northbound near Exit 23 in New Hampton early Saturday, coming to rest in trees in the median and prompting lane closures in both directions for about four hours.
State Police began receiving calls at 4:26 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Troopers from Troop D located a 2012 yellow Hino 258/268 off the road, up in the trees in the median just before Exit 23.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver, identified as Anilton Resende Barros, 21, of Brockton, Massachusetts, was traveling northbound when, for reasons under investigation, he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck went straight into the median, crossed the north–south crossover, struck an embankment, and launched into a group of trees before stopping in the woods separating the opposing lanes.
Resende Barros sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The left travel lanes of I-93 northbound and southbound were closed at Exit 23 during the response and cleanup. All lanes reopened at 8:58 a.m.
All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper John Zavala at John.A.Zavala@dos.nh.gov.
