DURHAM, N.H. — The Durham Fire Department quickly contained a building fire on Colony Cove Road Thursday afternoon, preventing extension beyond a wall and floor cavity and resulting in no reported injuries.
According to the department, on November 6, 2025, at approximately 4:29 p.m., units were dispatched after a 911 caller reported smoke from the residence, possibly originating from electrical service equipment near the meter. Occupants were instructed to evacuate and remain outside.
While en route, the Deputy Chief requested a first alarm due to the remote location and rural water supply considerations. On arrival, firefighters located a smoldering fire between the electric meter and the service panel within a wall and floor assembly. Crews stretched a hose line, conducted an interior search, and opened an exterior wall and section of flooring to reach and rapidly extinguish the active fire.
Companies remained on scene to check for extension and confirm the fire was fully out within concealed spaces. Officials reported smoke, water, and physical property damage to the building as a result of the fire and suppression operations. No injuries were reported by the property owner or responders.
The cause remains under investigation and appears electrical in nature. The Durham electrical inspector assisted by isolating the electrical service, and Eversource Energy responded to address utility infrastructure for safety.
Mutual aid support was provided by Barrington, Dover, Exeter, Lee, Madbury, Newmarket, and Somersworth, along with the Durham Police Department. The Strafford County Communications Center served as primary dispatch, and McGregor EMS stood by to provide medical support. The incident concluded with all units clear by 6:30 p.m.
Officials credited the successful mitigation to the immediate availability and response of five on-duty personnel and two chief officers, as well as six off-duty members who returned to the station to augment staffing. The department thanked all mutual aid partners for their timely assistance and coordinated operations.
Further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
