Fire Marshal: Maine Wildlife Park Fire Believed Accidental, Exact Cause Undetermined

GRAY, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a structure fire that occurred Thursday night at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray.


According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Gray Fire Department responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, for a reported structure fire at the Maine Wildlife Park. The Maine Warden Service and the Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed there were no animals or people injured in the fire.


Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, along with personnel from the Maine Fuel Board and the Electricians’ Examination Board, returned to the scene during the morning of Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, to investigate the fire. Officials said investigators were unable to determine an exact cause but believe the fire was accidental, likely the result of an electrical malfunction from multiple possible sources.


The Fire Marshal’s Office listed the following agencies as assisting with suppression and investigation: Gray Fire Department, New Gloucester Fire Department, Windham Fire Rescue, Raymond Fire Department, Cumberland Fire Department, North Yarmouth Fire Department, Falmouth Fire Department, Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Office of State Fire Marshal, Maine Fuel Board, Electricians’ Examination Board, and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
