Hiker Dies After Medical Emergency on Kilburn Trail in Pisgah State Park

A hike in Pisgah State Park turned tragic Thursday when a New Hampshire resident collapsed on the Kilburn Trail near Hinsdale and could not be revived despite swift efforts from a companion and multiple first responders.

Around noon, New Hampshire State Police Dispatch notified New Hampshire Fish and Game about a hiker who had collapsed while returning to the Chesterfield Road trailhead. A hiking companion immediately began lifesaving measures.

Responders from Hinsdale, Chesterfield, and Spofford fire departments, Rescue Inc., the Hinsdale Police Department, and New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers reached the scene and continued resuscitation efforts. Despite those attempts, the hiker was pronounced deceased.

Officials say the collapse appears to have been the result of a sudden medical emergency. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
