The Maine State Police arrested a Harrison, Maine man after a pursuit that began in New Hampshire and continued north on the Maine Turnpike just after midnight.
According to the Maine State Police, the New Hampshire State Police requested assistance during an active high-speed pursuit involving a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Matthew Olsen, 44, of Harrison, Maine. New Hampshire troopers had attempted to stop the truck for speeding and erratic operation; during the chase, the truck rammed an NHSP cruiser.
When the vehicle crossed into Maine on Interstate 95, Maine troopers took over. The pursuit continued northbound to the Kennebunk Rest Area, where the truck drove over a curb, damaging its tires, before re-entering the highway.
Maine State Police troopers then disabled the vehicle using the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) and took Olsen into custody.
Olsen was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Eluding an Officer, Reckless Conduct, and Criminal Speed. As a precaution, he was taken to a local hospital and subsequently transported to the York County Jail.
No further details were released.
