A coordinated search involving multiple agencies led to the arrest of a New Durham man Monday night following an attempted robbery at a Subway restaurant and a robbery at a Shell gas station in Rochester.

According to the Rochester Police Department, officers responded on February 23, 2026, at approximately 6:02 p.m. to Subway on North Main Street for a reported attempted robbery. Police said a male entered the store with his face covered and demanded money from the clerk. The male appeared as though he had something in his pocket during the incident. When the clerk refused to provide money, the male left the store on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as wearing a blue plaid coat, a black hat, and a white scarf covering his face. A search of the area at that time did not locate a suspect.

While officers were still investigating the Subway incident, at approximately 9:21 p.m., police responded to the Shell gas station on Farmington Road for a reported robbery. Police said a male entered the store, approached the counter, and demanded money from the register. The male obtained an undisclosed amount of money before leaving in the direction of Little Falls Bridge Road.

The suspect in the Shell robbery was described exactly the same as the individual involved in the earlier Subway incident, wearing a blue plaid coat, black hat, and white scarf covering his face.

With assistance from the New Hampshire State Police, a K-9 unit conducted a track for the suspect. The Rollinsford Police Department assisted with a drone to search the area. Officers were able to locate the suspect fleeing along the old railroad bed. Police also received a tip from a snowmobiler who reported a person walking on a trail behind the Ford dealership on Farmington Road, which helped direct officers to the suspect’s location.

Police located the suspect in the wood line next to the Ford dealership wearing clothing matching the earlier description.

Jarrod Hoage, 34, of New Durham, New Hampshire, was arrested on two counts of robbery. Hoage is scheduled to be arraigned on February 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the 7th Circuit District Court in Rochester.

All aspects of the incident remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Rochester Police Department at (603) 330-7128.
