A Southbridge, Massachusetts woman was injured Wednesday afternoon when her ATV rolled after she swerved to avoid an opposing OHRV on Smitty’s Trail in Gorham.
According to the release, at about 4:25 p.m., responders from Gorham Fire & EMS and a New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officer arrived to find the operator, Elizabeth Madison, 37, injured after her ATV entered a ditch and rolled on top of her. Madison had been attempting a left turn onto Smitty’s Trail when an opposing OHRV failed to keep right and entered her lane at a high rate of speed. She was wearing a helmet, eyewear, and other protective gear.
After the crash, Madison crawled out from under the ATV and contacted a family member, who called 911. Gorham Fire & EMS evacuated her from the trail and transported her to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for evaluation. The ATV sustained minimal damage. The investigation is ongoing.
