Detective Khristine Bibeau has been selected as the 2025 Red Hayes Community Ambassador Award recipient, recognizing her service in promoting and improving positive community relationships. She was recognized at the Police Commission meeting, with the award presented by the Rochester Thank a Cop committee.
According to the release, Det. Bibeau’s outgoing, friendly approach and willingness to educate and work with the public exemplify the award’s purpose. The Red Hayes Award honors a current patrol officer who earns the respect and admiration of the community through actions that build trust and reflect a positive community spirit.
The award is named for longtime Rochester Officer Willis “Red” Hayes, remembered for his friendly presence on the square from the 1940s to the 1970s and for fostering respectful, constructive interactions. Selection may be supported by public or officer testimony, prior citations, and characteristics such as respectful engagement, compassion, effective de-escalation, community involvement, and efforts that encourage rehabilitation. Any citizen or department member may submit a nomination; the Chief of Police may also initiate nominations under department policy 26.1.2 (Commendations and Awards).
