Rockland Police Update Fatal School Bus Incident; Investigation Ongoing

ROCKLAND, Maine — Rockland Police say their Criminal Investigation Division is working with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office to continue investigating the November 21 incident in which a student was struck by a school bus on Broadway at Eliza Steele Drive.
According to the updated release, specialists from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor’s Program, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, and the Maine State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit are assisting. The bus operator has been placed on administrative leave, and RSU-13 is cooperating with the investigation.
Police asked for the public’s patience and said no additional details will be released at this time out of respect for the family and to protect the integrity of the case.
Prior information (11/21/2025):
Around 2:20 p.m. Friday, Rockland Police and Rockland Fire & EMS responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at Broadway and Eliza Steele Drive involving an RSU-13 student. The child received immediate medical care, was transported, and was later life-flighted to Maine Medical Center. The child subsequently succumbed to their injuries. Rockland Police noted assistance from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle and Crash Reconstruction Units and coordination with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities have reiterated their condolences to the victim’s family and asked the community to keep them in their thoughts.
