OAKLAND, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an explosion that destroyed a two-story residence on Lakeview Drive yesterday at approximately 3:00 p.m.
According to officials, initial indicators point to a propane gas leak that found an ignition source, resulting in the blast. Investigators have ruled out the propane tanks themselves as the source of the leak and are examining several propane appliances to determine the cause.
Cliff Hannon, 66, was inside the home at the time of the explosion. He sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center.
Fire Marshal investigators remain on scene today, working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Oakland Police and Fire Departments, Maine State Police, and Maine Propane and Fuel Inspectors to determine the cause of the explosion. The investigation is ongoing.
