TOPSHAM, Maine — A structure fire destroyed a large storage building Sunday afternoon in Topsham, but no injuries were reported, according to the Topsham Fire & Rescue Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:38 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, to a reported structure fire at 21 Avon Drive. Dispatchers initially reported the incident as a fully involved shed fire. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that a 20-by-20-foot storage building was fully involved in flames.
Officials said the structure was located approximately 60 feet from the main residence. Fire crews were already committed to two separate ambulance calls at the time of the fire, and the first arriving engine was staffed by off-duty personnel who were recalled to assist with the incident. A first alarm was struck, and crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
Mutual aid was requested to support operations and maintain coverage. West Bath Fire Department provided station coverage for Topsham, while Brunswick Fire Department supplied a tanker to assist with water supply. Emergency medical services coverage was handled by off-duty personnel who responded to the callback.
The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was determined to be discarded woodstove ashes, according to fire officials. Once additional Topsham ambulances cleared from the hospital, all other mutual aid resources were released.
Mutual aid agencies that assisted during the incident included West Bath, Brunswick, Lisbon, Bowdoin, and Bowdoinham fire departments.
The incident remains under review by Topsham Fire & Rescue, but officials indicated no further information is expected to be released.
