Sunapee Fire Department quickly extinguished a small brush fire at the base of a tree near Jobs Creek Road and Westwood Road after a passing citizen called 911 amid HIGH fire danger conditions this weekend.

According to the release, the call came in at 07:09 on Saturday. Sunapee Utility 2 arrived at 07:14 and reported a small fire along the roadside. Utility 1 then arrived, deployed hand tools and the hose reel, and crews checked the surrounding ground and tree with a thermal imaging camera to confirm full extinguishment.

Five Sunapee Fire personnel responded, and Sunapee Police stood by on scene. The fire was fully extinguished and units cleared at 08:02. Chief Tillson credited the citizen’s report, SFD’s fast response, and early morning dew with keeping the fire small and preventing additional damage.
