PALMYRA, Maine — The Maine State Police report that Kareem Quattlebaum, 38, of New York, was arrested in the Bronx, New York, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m. in connection with the March 12, 2025 homicide of Jaquan Humphries, 28, of Mattapan, Massachusetts. According to the update, the FBI New York Office took Quattlebaum into custody. He was transported to NYPD Central Booking and will be held at Rikers Island pending an extradition hearing. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
State police credited a coordinated effort that included the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in Maine, and the FBI New York Office. The agencies’ work led to the arrest announced on Wednesday. On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at approximately 1:33 a.m., the Somerset County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence at 531 Madawaska Road in Palmyra. Deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office responded and located a deceased male inside the residence. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central, along with Evidence Response Technicians, responded and conducted an on-scene investigation throughout the day. The deceased was identified as Jaquan Humphries, 28, of Mattapan, Massachusetts, who had been living at the residence. His body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. At the time of the initial release, authorities stated there was no known danger to the public and that the investigation was continuing.
Wednesday’s arrest announcement is the first update identifying a suspect taken into custody in a different jurisdiction and outlines the steps now underway to pursue extradition.
