Bangor Woman Dies After Single-Vehicle Crash in Levant

LEVANT, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Levant.


According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Penobscot County Regional Communications Center received a report at 4:18 p.m. on January 14, 2026, of a serious crash near the intersection of Union Street and Stetson Road East, reportedly in front of Ollie’s Market. Witnesses reported a lone vehicle struck a tree head-on.


First responders rendered aid to the driver, identified as Libby Toothaker, 28, of Bangor. Levant Fire and Rescue transported Toothaker to Northern Light Medical Center in Bangor, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.


The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded and completed a reconstruction of the crash. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Levant Fire Department, Hermon Fire Department, and Northern Light Medical Transport.


The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and no further details are being released at this time.
