A deputy-involved shooting in Turner on Friday night followed a pursuit and crash, leaving the suspect hospitalized and the deputy treated and released, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
Androscoggin County Deputy Kurt Fegan was attempting to locate Christopher Lebrun on an outstanding felony warrant when, at 10:15 p.m., Mr. Lebrun was spotted on Plains Road in Turner. Deputy Fegan attempted a stop, but Mr. Lebrun failed to comply and a pursuit continued to the intersection of North Main Street and General Turner Hill Road, where Mr. Lebrun crashed into a tree.
Deputy Fegan exited his cruiser to confront Mr. Lebrun as he exited his vehicle. Mr. Lebrun pointed a gun at Deputy Fegan and was shot twice. He was transported to Maine Medical Center and is currently being treated for his injuries.
During the incident, Deputy Fegan injured his knee, was transported to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment, and was later released.
The Sheriff’s Office reports criminal charges are pending regarding Mr. Lebrun’s conduct. The Office of the Attorney will investigate the use of deadly force. Deputy Fegan has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol in officer-involved deadly force incidents. Further inquiries should be directed to the Office of the Attorney General.
