PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A Massachusetts man was arrested on multiple charges following a pursuit that ended in Portsmouth.

At 10:21 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, Trooper Cameron Vetter of the Troop A barracks observed a 2016 BMW X3 traveling at more than 120 mph on Interstate 95 northbound in Hampton. Trooper Vetter attempted a traffic stop; when the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The BMW continued on I-95 with its exterior lighting turned off, speeding and operating erratically. The driver exited at Exit 5 toward the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, then traveled southbound on Route 1. Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated, and Troopers canvassed the area.

Trooper Patrick Vetter later located the BMW behind a business off Lafayette Road. The driver and sole occupant, Mason Hebert, 22, of Boxford, Massachusetts, was arrested. Troopers noted Hebert displayed signs of impairment.

Hebert was charged with a felony count of reckless conduct and misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving under the influence of liquor and disobeying an officer. He was held in preventive detention by a bail commissioner and transported to the Rockingham County Jail, pending an appearance scheduled in Portsmouth District Court on Friday, November 28, 2025.

All aspects of this incident remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Cameron Vetter at Cameron.S.Vetter@dos.nh.gov.
