An electrical failure involving a wall outlet caused an early Sunday morning fire at a Windham home, according to the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Five occupants and two dogs escaped the residence. One cat died in the fire.

Firefighters Encounter Heavy Fire

The Windham Fire Department responded to the residence at approximately 3:22 a.m. and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the roof.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire.

Five people were inside the residence when the fire occurred. All were able to escape, and no fire-related injuries were reported.

One occupant was transported to a local hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

Two dogs also escaped without injury. One cat died in the fire.

Fire Marshal Determines Cause

Windham Fire requested assistance from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Following an examination of the scene, investigators determined that the fire originated near an air-conditioning unit and the electrical outlet supplying power to it.

Investigators determined an electrical failure involving the wall outlet caused the fire.

The fire has been classified as accidental.
