Fatal house fire under investigation in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fatal fire at 133 Andrew Ham Road in Cambridge.
Fire Investigators responded at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at the request of the Cambridge Fire Department. During initial suppression efforts, crews located a deceased individual inside the home. The victim is believed to be the homeowner, 75-year-old Stuart Howe.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will conduct an autopsy to confirm positive identification. Responding fire departments included Cambridge, Sangerville, and Harmony. Crews worked in cold weather and slippery conditions to extinguish the fire, and an excavator was brought to the scene to aid suppression efforts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
