FMO Investigating Palermo Fire; One Person Critically Injured, Second Victim Sought

PALERMO, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is investigating a late-night structure fire in Palermo where one person was critically injured and recovery efforts for a second victim were ongoing as of Monday night.
On December 15, 2025, at approximately 11:25 p.m., the Palermo Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at a residence located at 98 Leeman Arm Road. When firefighters arrived, officials said the home was fully involved with fire.
Fire personnel located a severely burned adult male in the roadway near the residence. Officials said he had escaped the fire prior to firefighters’ arrival. The individual was transported by ambulance to MaineGeneral Hospital and later transported via LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center, where he is reported to be in critical condition.
According to the release, the injured male told firefighters that one additional person remained inside the residence. Fire crews initiated operations while receiving assistance from several neighboring fire departments and area ambulance services.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene with a team of six investigators. Officials said recovery efforts for the second victim were ongoing, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
