HARPSWELL, Maine — Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from Cundy’s Harbor and Orrs & Bailey Island responded Tuesday morning to a two-vehicle, head-on collision in the area of 692 Harpswell Islands Road.
The crash was reported at 9:23 a.m. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the vehicles involved were a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by David Waterman, 70, of Harpswell, and a sedan driven by Serena Weston, 42, of Brunswick. Weston had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in Weston’s vehicle, Kevin Hayes, 49, of Harpswell, was not transported. Waterman was transported to Mid Coast Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on witness statements and an on-scene evaluation, preliminary findings indicate the sedan driven by Weston crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck the Silverado head-on. Harpswell Islands Road was closed for a short time while the scene was processed and later reopened.
The Sheriff’s Office noted an update to initial information: the vehicle driven by Weston was a 2012 Ford Fusion, not a Hyundai.
The Patrol Division of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate. No further information is being released at this time.
