A coordinated multi-agency effort helped an injured hiker off Mt. Welch–Dickey’s Dickey side Tuesday afternoon after a fall left the hiker unable to continue, leading to a 1.1-mile carryout to a waiting ambulance.

According to the release, the call came in around 1:13 p.m. via New Hampshire 911 for an injured hiker on the Dublin Trail near Old Troy Road. Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue dispatched Ambulance 1, Car 1, and Utility 1. A two-person crew began up the trail and met a Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team (PVSRT) volunteer who had already reached and was attending to the patient.

Additional PVSRT members and New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers arrived and assisted with the carryout. Approximately 20 personnel from the three agencies transported the patient 1.1 miles to the trailhead, where the hiker was taken by Campton-Thornton Ambulance 1 to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for treatment. Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety provided station coverage during the incident. No other injuries were reported.

This was the second incident on the Welch–Dickey Loop in a week. The release notes that even prepared, experienced hikers can be injured by a single slip, and directs outdoor enthusiasts to Hike Safe resources and information about PVSRT.
