HAMPTON, N.H. — A Massachusetts driver suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the Hampton Side Toll Plaza, which connects Interstate 95 and Route 101, according to New Hampshire State Police.

State Police said troopers assigned to the Troop A barracks responded at 3:55 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026, to a report of a crash at the toll plaza.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Keith Wheeler, 59, of Exeter, crossed into oncoming traffic at the toll plaza and struck a 2024 Subaru Impreza driven by Charlie Moschetto, 55, of Methuen, Massachusetts. After striking the Subaru, State Police said the Chevrolet continued into oncoming traffic and hit a 2018 Toyota Corolla head-on. The Corolla was driven by Tyler Quintal, 27, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Police said Quintal suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment. Wheeler suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Moschetto was not injured, according to State Police.

Wheeler was charged with negligent operation and is scheduled to appear in Hampton District Court on Thursday, March 19, 2026, police said.

Due to the crash, ramps from Route 101 to the Side Toll Plaza were shut down for approximately 30 minutes until two of the three vehicles involved were towed from the scene, according to State Police. Troopers were assisted by the Hampton Police Department and Hampton Fire Department.

State Police said the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Dylon Sandstrom at Dylon.K.Sandstrom@dos.nh.gov
