More Than a Dozen 911 Calls Lead to Arrest of Erratic Driver on I-95

A Florida man was arrested Wednesday evening after Maine State Police received 14 separate 911 calls reporting a box truck driving erratically on Interstate 95.

The incident included reports that the truck drove through a closed weigh station gate and, at one point, traveled the wrong way in the southbound lanes.

Troopers Search for Box Truck

According to Maine State Police, the Bangor Regional Communications Center began receiving calls at approximately 5:32 p.m. reporting a box truck driving erratically southbound on I-95 in Old Town.

The truck was reported to have driven through the closed gate at the weigh station before continuing southbound.

Troopers began attempting to locate the vehicle, and Bangor and Orono police were notified to assist.

Truck Reported Traveling Wrong Way

At one point, the truck exited I-95 at Exit 187/Hogan Road in Bangor before getting back onto the interstate and traveling northbound.

Police said the truck then crossed the median and began traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes before correcting itself.

The vehicle eventually entered the Lowe’s parking lot in Bangor, where it was reported to be driving in circles.

Driver Taken Into Custody

Authorities ultimately located the truck in the BJ’s parking lot, where the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Police identified the driver as Julio Matos, 36, of Orange City, Florida.

Matos was transported to the Penobscot County Jail and faces charges of Criminal OUI, Driving to Endanger and Failure to Notify of Motor Vehicle Accident. Maine State Police said additional charges may be filed.

No injuries were reported.

The charges are allegations, and Matos is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
