Oxford County Deputy Shoots Armed Man During Brownfield Domestic Incident

The Maine Attorney General’s Office will investigate the use of deadly force after an Oxford County Sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded an armed man during a domestic incident in Brownfield on Monday.

The man was struck in both hands and was ultimately transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Police Response

According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, Fryeburg Police Department, Maine State Police and Maine Warden Service responded to 11 Porter Road for a reported domestic dispute.

Authorities said it was reported that Junkins was chasing his wife while armed with a gun.

Upon arrival, law enforcement confronted Junkins. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Junkins leveled the weapon in the direction of law enforcement and was shot.

Deputy Andre Chasse fired two shots, striking Junkins in the hands.

Junkins was briefly treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to Bridgton Hospital. He was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Placed on Administrative Leave

Deputy Chasse will be placed on administrative leave, which the Sheriff’s Office described as standard practice following a law enforcement deadly-force incident.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office will investigate the use of deadly force.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the underlying alleged criminal conduct.

Charges Announced

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Junkins will be charged with Domestic Violence Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Domestic Violence Terrorizing and Terrorizing.

No further information is being released at this time.

The announced charges are allegations. Junkins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
