BOWDOINHAM, Maine – A Maine State Police Troop I Trooper safely stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 295 late Friday night after multiple reports from motorists.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, Troop I was dispatched to a report of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-295 near mile marker 37 in Bowdoinham. As Troopers responded and worked to position themselves ahead of the vehicle, additional reports continued to come in.
A Troop I Trooper positioned in a highway crossover observed the suspect vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes. The Trooper entered the roadway and boxed the vehicle in, bringing it to a safe stop.
The driver was identified as Rashard Robinson, 26, of Chesapeake, Virginia. Robinson was taken into custody without incident, transported to the Kennebec County Jail, and charged with Operating Under the Influence (OUI) and Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon.
Maine State Police thanked the numerous motorists who reported the wrong-way driver and acknowledged assistance from the Gardiner Police Department.

This incident began with multiple calls to dispatch reporting a wrong-way vehicle and concluded with a controlled stop by a Troop I Trooper who had positioned in advance to intercept. The driver was arrested without incident and faces the charges listed above. Maine State Police credited the reporting motorists and interagency assistance for helping bring the situation to a safe resolution.
