NORTH BERWICK, Maine — The North Berwick Police Department says reports of a potential act of violence at Noble Middle/High School are unsubstantiated, not credible, and false following an on-campus investigation conducted Thursday.
According to a department press release, at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the school resource officer (SRO) at Noble Middle/High School received third-party hearsay about a possible school-shooting threat that had been overheard four days earlier. The SRO and MSAD-60 administrators initiated an immediate inquiry. Over the next six hours, staff interviewed numerous students to assess the credibility of the reported threat.
Police report that every interview pointed to information passed from one student to another, with no direct witness to any explicit threat. Investigators say the thread of reports ultimately traced back to a student who stated they had “psychic powers” and a “feeling” that a shooting would occur. Based on the interviews and information available, officials concluded there was no valid or corroborated threat of violence at the school for October 31, 2025.
The department states that public safety and transparency guided the decision to issue the update, noting they typically do not comment on ongoing investigations but sought to quell rumors and reassure parents. No arrests, suspect identifications, or disciplinary details were announced in the release.
Police also addressed social media speculation, urging the public not to share unverified information that can generate unnecessary alarm. Specifically, the department noted that a “blue-haired kid” referenced online is not the source of the alleged threat and is being wrongfully targeted. Officials said they will not release student names and deferred policy and procedure questions to MSAD-60 administrators.
Key points from the department’s update include:
The initial report was third-party hearsay received Thursday morning.
A coordinated six-hour interview effort found no credible threat.
The rumor path led to a student’s claimed psychic “feeling,” not a direct statement of intent.
Social media posts naming students are inaccurate; the “blue-haired kid” is not the source.
Parents and students are encouraged to rely on official school and police communications.
No additional information was provided regarding school operations or security measures. Officials indicated that any further updates will be communicated by the district consistent with established procedures.
