Passenger Killed; Driver Sought After I-95 Crash in Clinton

CLINTON, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near mile marker 138.

At around 7:00 a.m., a 2025 GMC Savana rental van left the northbound lane, entered the ditch, went airborne over the median crossover, and struck a tree. Troopers located a critically injured passenger and performed life-saving measures. The passenger was transported to a local hospital and later died. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Witnesses told troopers the driver—described as a male wearing dark clothing and carrying a dark backpack—ran from the van into nearby woods before police arrived. A search was conducted for much of the day with assistance from the State Police K-9 unit and the Airwing. The driver was not located.
