Pedestrian Deceased After Crash in Salem

Salem, NH


New Hampshire State Police are investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Interstate 93 southbound in Salem.


At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, a State Trooper was stopped by a passerby who reported that a pedestrian had been struck on I-93 southbound in the area of the Exit 2 on-ramp. Troopers responded to the scene, where the pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced deceased.


According to State Police, the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained on scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.


As a result of the investigation, multiple lanes of I-93 southbound were closed for more than three hours.


Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Salem Police Department, Salem Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.


The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Trooper Madelynn Theve.
