According to the department’s summary, Engine 3 responded under the command of Sgt. Sandahl, along with Squad 1 and Chief Dana Cullen Jr. (Car 1). Action Ambulance was requested to stand by for medical support. On arrival, companies found a smoke condition throughout the home and special requested West Ossipee Tower 3 to assist at the scene due to the nature of the heating-system issue and the need for access and ventilation support.

Fire crews shut down the pellet stove and cleared a blocked chimney pipe. The department reported that the home had working, activated smoke detectors, which alerted occupants, and there were no reported injuries to the three residents. The incident was managed on scene with no further hazards reported once the stove was secured and the venting cleared.

COFD expressed appreciation to regional partners for their roles during the response, noting West Ossipee Tower 3 for on-scene assistance and Action Ambulance for standing by if needed. The operational sequence focused on isolating the appliance, verifying extension, ventilating the structure, and restoring safe conditions after the blockage was addressed.

In its post-incident message, Chief Dana Cullen Jr. used the call as a seasonal reminder of home heating safety. The department emphasized the importance of working smoke detectors throughout the home and highlighted guidance from national authorities on heating-system maintenance. Specifically, the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommend annual professional cleaning and inspection of chimneys and repairs as necessary to help prevent chimney fires and heating-related incidents.

This update reflects the facts provided by the department: early-morning dispatch to Beech River Circle, response by Engine 3, Squad 1, and Car 1, an assist by West Ossipee Tower 3, standby by Action Ambulance, a smoke condition within the residence, shutdown of the pellet stove, clearing of a blocked chimney, confirmation of functioning smoke alarms, and no injuries to occupants. No additional information on damage estimates or follow-up service needs was included in the department’s account.
