Rockland Police say a Hope man was arrested Tuesday after an overnight burglary at a Main Street business, where investigators allege the suspect disabled a security alarm and stole more than $3,000 from a safe.
Police said officers responded on January 20, 2026, at approximately 8:20 a.m. to a report of a burglary that had occurred overnight at a business on Main Street. Based on evidence at the scene, police said it was clear the suspect had prior knowledge of the business, was able to disable the security alarm, and gained quick access to the safe.
Rockland Police Criminal Investigation Division assumed the investigation and conducted interviews while collecting video and physical evidence, police said.
According to police, at approximately 5:30 p.m., detectives interviewed Mark Hupper and conducted a search of a residence in Hope. Police said detectives recovered almost all of the stolen money and arrested Hupper, 41, of Hope.
Hupper was charged with felony burglary, felony theft, and felony aggravated criminal mischief, police said. Police also stated Hupper is on probation for a 2020 kidnapping charge and was additionally charged with violation of probation.
