Trenton House Fire Leads to Collapse, Firefighter Injury; Cause Under Review

December 23, 2025 — by Scanner Alerts Media

TRENTON, Maine — A multi-story residential structure fire at 48 Pressey Ln in Trenton on Monday evening resulted in a total loss of the home and injured one firefighter, according to the Trenton Fire Department.

Fire officials said the department was dispatched at approximately 6:31 p.m. on December 22, 2025, with initial reports indicating visible smoke and fire. Fire crews from Trenton, Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Hancock responded. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and immediately began suppression operations.

Shortly after crews began operations, the second floor of the structure collapsed, followed by a partial roof collapse, creating hazardous conditions at the scene.

Officials said the sole occupant of the residence was able to escape and was not injured.

During the incident, one firefighter was injured when a section of the second floor failed. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital and treated for a concussion, as well as neck and back injuries, according to the release.

Due to the extent of fire involvement and significant structural failure, an excavator was used to assist with suppression and overhaul operations. Fire officials reported the dwelling contained approximately 20,000 books and a considerable vinyl record collection, which contributed to a substantial fire load. With the structure severely compromised and the fire deeply seated in areas inaccessible to firefighters, the department said heavy equipment was required to safely expose and fully extinguish remaining fire while minimizing risk to personnel.

The fire is believed to have originated when embers from a wood stove ignited a nearby couch. The residence is considered a total loss. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and will be following up.

The Trenton Fire Department thanked the Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Hancock Fire Departments for their response and operational support. Officials also acknowledged the Mount Desert and Sullivan Fire Departments for providing additional tanker resources, and thanked Northern Light, Goodwin Construction, and assisting agencies for their cooperation during the incident.
