LYMAN, Maine — A motor vehicle crash on Alfred Road in Lyman sent a vehicle into a pond Monday afternoon, but the occupants were able to get out safely before fire and EMS units arrived, according to information provided by Goodwins Mills Fire.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. this afternoon, crews were dispatched to Alfred Road for a crash involving a vehicle that entered the water. Initial reports indicated that a family may still have been inside the vehicle.
At the time of dispatch, the on-duty crew was committed to another incident. Officials stated that the occupants were able to safely exit the vehicle prior to the arrival of Fire and EMS units.
The release noted this incident as a reminder that if a vehicle enters water, occupants should remain calm, unbuckle seatbelts, and exit the vehicle as quickly as possible — children first — before the vehicle becomes submerged.
Crews from Goodwins Mills Fire assisted the tow company with securing the vehicle for removal from the pond. Officials also thanked bystanders who stopped to help and local residents who provided warmth and care to the family until emergency crews arrived.
A total of nine responders from Goodwins Mills responded to the incident, according to the release.
