WATERVILLE, Maine — Waterville Police arrested a Waterville man following a pursuit on December 21, 2025, that began with a reported stolen vehicle and ended after a police cruiser was rammed and disabled during the chase.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. on December 21, Waterville Police responded to Dunkin Donut’s on College Avenue for a report of a stolen black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While searching the area, officers located the vehicle on Kennedy Memorial Drive and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Police said the suspect refused to stop and led officers on a chase southbound on the interstate toward Augusta. Waterville Police noted that prior to this incident, the suspect had been removed from a local business at the request of staff.
While on the interstate, officers deployed a tire deflation device, but police said the vehicle continued southbound with partially deflated tires. Maine State Police joined the chase prior to the pursuit exiting Interstate 95 at Exit 113, and police said a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) was successfully executed.
During the pursuit, police said the suspect struck a Waterville Police cruiser, completely disabling it. After the vehicle came to rest, police said the suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody a short time later on Old Belgrade Road.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Poirier, 38, of Waterville. Police said he was charged with eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized taking, driving to endanger, operating with a suspended license, and criminal speed. He was transported to the Kennebec County Jail on $2,560 bail.
Police said the investigation remains active, but additional charges are not expected. Officials also stated traffic patterns have returned to normal.
