A Biddeford man has been arrested and indicted in connection with the 2024 death of a 5-week-old boy, concluding a yearlong investigation by state and local authorities.

Maine State Police Major Crimes South Detectives arrested Christopher Knapp, 36, of Biddeford, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, on a warrant for Manslaughter. That same day, the York County Grand Jury indicted Knapp on the charge. He was transported to the York County Jail, arraigned on October 9, entered a not guilty plea, and is being held on $175,000 cash bail.

The case stems from an incident on June 15, 2024, when Biddeford Fire and Police responded to 37 Emery Street for an unresponsive 1-month-old. The child was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The infant died on June 20, 2024. An autopsy conducted on June 21, 2024 determined the manner of death to be homicide. The cause of death is not being released.

According to investigators, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South assisted the Biddeford Police Department throughout the investigation, which led to this week’s arrest and indictment.
