NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. — One person was hurt Sunday morning after a box truck left the roadway and crashed into the tree line on Interstate 95 southbound in North Hampton.

According to New Hampshire State Police, dispatch received the initial report at 9:29 a.m. for a large box truck off the road on I-95 southbound. Troopers from Troop A responded to the scene along with North Hampton Fire & Rescue and the Greenland Fire Department.

A preliminary investigation determined the truck had been traveling southbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, it abruptly turned to the right and went off the road. The vehicle then traveled approximately 50 feet down an embankment and struck the tree line.

State Police identified the box truck as a 2014 Freightliner M2 operated by Aaron Carpenter, 42, of Providence, Rhode Island. Officials said Carpenter was initially trapped in the cab. Emergency responders cut through trees to reach the vehicle and free the driver.

Carpenter was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, according to State Police. No additional patient information was released.

The right lane of I-95 southbound was closed for approximately five hours while crews worked to remove the truck and clear the scene. Authorities did not release further details regarding the recovery process or any secondary impacts beyond the single lane closure.

Investigators say all aspects of the crash remain under investigation. No information was provided about contributing factors beyond the preliminary description of the truck’s movement prior to leaving the roadway.

State Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information relevant to the investigation contact Trooper Alison J. Baumbach at 603-223-4381 or Alison.J.Baumbach@dos.nh.gov.
