Massachusetts Man Charged in Kennebunk Town Hall Bomb Threat Investigation

A Massachusetts man has been charged with a felony following an investigation into two bomb threats that forced the evacuation and closure of the Kennebunk Town Hall Complex in August.

Kennebunk Police identified the man as Andres Gaviria Arango, 25, and said he has been charged with Terrorizing, a Class C felony.

Bomb Threats Force Town Hall Evacuation

According to the Kennebunk Police Department, the Town of Kennebunk received two bomb threats during the morning hours of August 12.

The threats prompted the evacuation of the Town Hall Complex and affected municipal business operations. Town leadership ultimately closed Town Hall for the remainder of the day.

Kennebunk Police previously reported that explosive-detecting K-9 teams searched the building and no explosives were found.

Investigation Leads to Massachusetts

The Kennebunk Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation with assistance from the Maine State Police, Maine Capitol Police and FBI Portland.

Police said the investigation led detectives to an address in Revere, Massachusetts, and eventually to the person investigators determined was responsible for sending the threats.

Police identified that individual as Andres Gaviria Arango, 25.

Felony Charge Filed

Kennebunk Police detectives have charged Arango with Terrorizing, a Class C felony.

He is scheduled to appear at the York Judicial Center on October 13.

Kennebunk Police thanked the agencies that assisted with the investigation, specifically recognizing the Revere Police Department and its Behavioral Health Unit.

The charge is an allegation. Arango is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
