The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash discovered late Tuesday night after an automated crash notification from a cellular phone directed authorities to the area of Phillips Road in Glenburn.

Automated Crash Alert Leads Deputies to Scene

At approximately 11:18 p.m., the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received an automated crash notification from a cellular phone plotting in the area of Phillips Road.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to investigate.

Upon arrival, a deputy located an unresponsive male and a crashed motorcycle in the woods. Glenburn Fire and Rescue responded and confirmed the man had died.

Crews Search Surrounding Woods

Deputies and Glenburn Fire and Rescue personnel conducted a thorough search of the surrounding woods to ensure no additional occupants had been involved in the crash.

The search was conducted both by hand and with the use of a FLIR system.

Crash Investigation Continues

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, Criminal Investigation Division and Patrol Division responded to the scene, along with a Sheriff’s Office motorcycle inspection mechanic.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities said no further information will be released at this time.
