Incident Overview
The Waldoboro Fire Department responded to two separate structure fires Friday morning in Waldoboro. State Fire Marshal investigators responded to both scenes, and officials said the fires are not connected.
Fire #1: North Nobleboro Road
At approximately 2:38 a.m., Waldoboro Fire responded to a reported structure fire involving a single-story home at 801 North Nobleboro Road, with fire reported extending through the front windows and roof.
Officials said the two occupants escaped the home. One male resident sustained burns to his shoulder and neck and was transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta.
The roof collapsed in the center of the home and the front wall burned away, according to the release. One firefighter fell through the floor but did not sustain injuries.
The release stated the residents were using propane space heaters inside to help with warming. Two cats and a dog perished in the fire, and one dog was rescued by the owner.
State Fire Marshal investigators classified the fire as undetermined due to competing accidental causes.
Fire #2: Friendship Road
At approximately 7:03 a.m., Waldoboro Fire received another call for a reported structure fire at 2231 Friendship Road.
Firefighters arrived to find a barn attached to a home heavily involved in fire. Officials said the two occupants of the home had already escaped and were unhurt.
Firefighters contained the fire to the barn, with minimal damage to the home. State Fire Marshal investigators determined the cause was electrical in nature and classified the fire as accidental.
