Guilford Man Charged With Murder After Death Ruled Homicide

A 49-year-old Guilford man is now charged with murder following an investigation into an incident on Pine Street that left 63-year-old Brent Doore dead and an adult woman hospitalized in critical condition.

Two Seriously Injured Adults Found


The investigation began Sunday evening after the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office responded to 24 Pine Street for a wellbeing check.


Moments later, deputies located two seriously injured adults inside a neighboring residence at 26 Pine Street.


Doore and an adult female were transported to the hospital. Doore died from his injuries while being transported. The female remains hospitalized in critical condition.


Death Ruled Homicide


Doore was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.


An autopsy conducted Monday, August 17, determined his cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries. His manner of death was ruled a homicide.


Due to the nature of the crimes, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – North has taken the lead in the investigation, with the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office remaining involved as a key investigative partner.


Charge Elevated to Murder


As a result of the investigation, Ryan Carleton, 49, of Guilford, was initially taken into custody by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of Aggravated Assault.


During his initial court appearance Tuesday, August 18, Carleton’s charge was elevated to Murder.


Carleton is being held at the Piscataquis County Jail.

Carleton is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
