Hydraulic Fluid Spill from Refuse Truck Contained in Plaistow; HazMat Assists

PLAISTOW, N.H. — Today at approximately 1:42 p.m., the Plaistow Emergency Communications Center received calls reporting a refuse truck leaking a significant amount of hydraulic fluid. A box alarm was struck, sending on-duty personnel and recalling off-duty members.

Plaistow Engine 1 and Ambulance 1 arrived within six minutes and located a substantial spill extending over a large distance. Crews immediately implemented spill-control measures to protect the environment.

Operations on scene included Plaistow Engine 1, Engine 8, Ambulance 1, and Plaistow Police, with assistance from the Sandown Fire Department and the Southeastern New Hampshire Hazardous Materials Mutual Aid District. After initial mitigation, the scene was turned over to the vehicle owner and their cleanup company.
The department thanked dispatch, mutual aid partners, and the hazmat district for their roles in the response.
