SKOWHEGAN, Maine / DUNBARTON, N.H. — A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Skowhegan, Maine, was taken into custody by New Hampshire State Police following a multi-state pursuit that ended with a crash in Dunbarton.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta has ruled the death of 46-year-old Nicole Jackson of Skowhegan a homicide. An autopsy determined Jackson died from blunt force and sharp force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. Based on information developed during the investigation, Maine State Police identified Jackson’s boyfriend, 55-year-old Dane Burke of Skowhegan, as a suspect.
On Saturday morning, January 17, 2026, law enforcement in Massachusetts located a 2018 silver Jeep Compass believed to be operated by Burke. At approximately 8:30 a.m., New Hampshire State Police Troop B troopers were notified that Lowell Police Department officers were pursuing the vehicle northbound on Interstate 93 toward New Hampshire. Troopers were also advised that the driver was wanted in connection with the Skowhegan homicide.
State Police joined the pursuit after the vehicle crossed into New Hampshire in Salem. Authorities said the driver refused to stop, and the pursuit continued along portions of I-93, I-293, Route 101, and Route 114. The pursuit ended when the Jeep left the roadway and crashed into a tree on Route 13 in Dunbarton, just north of Barnard Road.
Additional troopers responded and surrounded the vehicle. After Burke barricaded himself inside, non-lethal munitions were deployed, and he was taken into custody without any reported injuries to law enforcement personnel.
Burke was transported by ambulance, under police escort, to a local hospital, where he remains under law enforcement supervision while being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The Jeep was seized as evidence in connection with the Maine homicide investigation.
Burke has been arrested on a Maine warrant charging him with murder. In addition, New Hampshire State Police charged him as a fugitive from justice, with additional charges expected related to the pursuit. No court date has been scheduled at this time. Burke is expected to remain in custody in New Hampshire pending extradition to Maine.
The homicide investigation remains ongoing. Authorities stated there is no known danger to the public at this time. Further updates will be released as appropriate.
