Maine State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Hermon Tuesday afternoon that sent two northbound vehicles across the median and into the southbound lanes.

No injuries were reported.

• Date/Time: Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at approximately 3:52 p.m.

• Location: I-95 near Exit 180 in Hermon

• Incident: Multi-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck with a trailer, utility truck, tractor-trailer and two southbound vehicles

• Injuries: None reported

• Traffic impact: Traffic was slowed during vehicle removal

• Status: Vehicles have been removed

• Investigation: Ongoing

Crash Began in Northbound Lanes

According to Maine State Police, the initial investigation determined that a pickup truck hauling a trailer failed to yield the right of way while merging onto I-95 from Coldbrook Road.

The trailer struck a utility truck traveling in the travel lane, forcing the utility truck into a tractor-trailer traveling in the passing lane.

The utility truck and tractor-trailer became entangled before both vehicles left the roadway, crossed the median and entered the southbound side of I-95.

Vehicles Enter Southbound Lanes

After crossing the median, the utility truck separated from the tractor-trailer. The operator then drove the utility truck back into the median to avoid a collision with oncoming southbound traffic.

As the vehicles crossed the median and separated, the tractor-trailer's trailer struck two vehicles traveling southbound.

Despite the number of vehicles involved and the vehicles entering opposing traffic, no injuries were reported.

Traffic in the area was slowed while crews worked to remove the involved vehicles. The vehicles have since been removed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
