MILTON, N.H. — One person has died following a fire at a home on Willey Road on Saturday morning, according to officials from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, Milton Fire Department, and Milton Police Department.

Milton firefighters were called to 285 Willey Road at 8:45 a.m. for a reported structure fire. The 911 caller, who had been inside the home when the fire began, told dispatchers that another occupant was still trapped inside. Crews arriving on scene encountered heavy fire throughout the two-story residence and had difficulty accessing the property due to an uncleared, snow-covered driveway.

As firefighters prepared to enter the building, the second floor collapsed, making it unsafe to continue interior operations. After the fire was brought under control, investigators and fire personnel located a deceased individual inside the home. The victim’s name is being withheld pending an autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Mutual aid companies from multiple surrounding communities assisted Milton firefighters at the scene.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire, with support from Milton fire and police personnel.

Officials remind residents to clear driveways and walkways of snow and ice to help first responders reach homes quickly during emergencies. They also emphasize the importance of getting out and staying out if a fire occurs.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office at (603) 223-4289 or fmo@dos.nh.gov.
