PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: Active Search Underway in Springvale After Gunfire Directed at Police Officer

Sanford, Maine

Sanford Police and assisting law enforcement agencies are actively searching for individuals involved in an incident early Tuesday morning in which police say an occupant of a fleeing vehicle fired a gun at an officer and police cruiser.

No officers were injured. Police warn that those involved may still be armed.

Sanford Police are asking residents in the affected areas to remain alert and aware of their surroundings.

Anyone who sees a suspicious person or suspicious activity should not approach, confront or engage them. Move to a safe location and call 911 immediately.

Police are also asking the public to avoid the affected areas whenever possible to allow officers to safely conduct their operations.

The search remains active. Additional information will be released when authorities determine it is safe and appropriate to do so.
