OTISFIELD, Maine — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office reports an arrest following a shooting outside a residence on Bell Hill Road on Saturday evening.
According to the agency, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on October 25, 2025, the Oxford County Regional Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that a female had been shot and injured outside a residence on Bell Hill Road in Otisfield. Deputies responded and were assisted at the scene by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine State Police, the Oxford Police Department, the Norway Police Department, the Otisfield Fire Department, and PACE Ambulance.
Deputies located a 28-year-old female victim, who was treated at the scene and then transported by PACE Ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital. The sheriff’s office states the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening; she had been shot in the hand.
The suspect was identified by the sheriff’s office as John K. Pottle Jr., 38, of Otisfield. Investigators report that Pottle fired an AR-15-style rifle recklessly in the vicinity of the victim, resulting in the victim being shot and injured. Deputies arrested Pottle, and the firearm was seized. He was transported and booked into the Oxford County Jail without any further incident.
The sheriff’s office lists the following charges against Pottle: Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C) and Aggravated Assault (Class B). Bail was set at $5,000.
