Scarborough Police Seek Bank Robbery Suspect; Possible Hit-and-Run Linked

Scarborough Police are investigating a bank robbery and a related hit-and-run reported Wednesday afternoon.


According to a police media release, at approximately 1:39 p.m. the Scarborough Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a robbery at Chase Bank, 1 Hannaford Drive. Investigators learned the suspect fled the area in a maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer bearing out-of-state plates.


The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s with blond hair and stubble facial hair. At the time of the incident he was reportedly wearing a grey sweater, black sunglasses, jeans, and tennis shoes. No weapon was displayed. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of currency.


Shortly after the robbery, witnesses reported a similar vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash on Gorham Road in the area of Mussey Road. The suspect vehicle reportedly continued northbound on Gorham Road after the crash.


Police ask anyone who may have seen the vehicle driving erratically in the area, or who has information about the crash or the robbery, to contact the Scarborough Police Department at (207) 883-6361 or the anonymous crime tip line at (207) 730-4386.
