Second-Alarm Fire Contained at Irving Forest Products Sawmill in Dixfield; No Injuries

DIXFIELD, Maine — Firefighters contained a commercial structure fire at the Irving Forest Products sawmill on Hall Hill Road in Dixfield. The incident escalated to a second alarm, drawing a large mutual-aid response. No injuries were reported.

According to initial radio traffic, a commercial structure fire was reported at the sawmill at 24 Hall Hill Road. Command requested additional companies, and a second alarm was transmitted. Responding units were advised for traffic impacts and to avoid the area during operations.

Dixfield Fire Company reported that fire damage was extensive but confined to the northwest side of the sawmill building. Mill personnel began assessing damage and planning repairs following suppression efforts. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted with the investigation.

Mutual-aid assistance included units from Rumford Fire Department; Peru Fire Department; Mexico Fire Department; East Dixfield Fire Department; Jay Fire Rescue; Wilton Fire Department; Canton Volunteer Fire Department; Roxbury Fire Department; Carthage Fire Department; Oxford County Regional Communications; and Med-Care Ambulance. Irving personnel also assisted on site.


Crews focused on confining the fire to prevent spread within the large industrial structure. Operations continued until the scene was secured and overhaul completed. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.


The cause of the fire has not been released. Further updates will be provided if additional official information becomes available.
