Serious Crash on Route 9 in Dixmont Sends Two to Hospital

DIXMONT, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash Friday evening on Route 9 (Western Ave) at the Dixmont–Newburgh town line.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received the report at 7:10 p.m. Deputies arrived to find a rental pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer off the roadway. The truck had traveled along Route 9, struck several rocks, and then hit a utility pole.
Both occupants of the pickup were transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. Their conditions were not released.
Route 9 was reduced to one lane during the on-scene investigation. Dixmont Fire and Newburgh Fire responded, along with Newport Ambulance and Hampden Ambulance.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
